Day – Night cricket, also known as floodlit cricket was first ever played in 1979 in Australia. That was a limited over match played between West Indies and Australia. From then, many of the matches of limited over started playing in day night format. But the concept of playing a day night TEST match came in 2015. ICC planned to start a day night test match. This is because of the viewership of test cricket started decreasing rapidly. Thus ICC plan to conduct day night test to bring back the craze of test cricket. The match was played with a pink ball.

On 27 November 2015 in Adelaide, Australia took on the Kiwis (New Zealand). That was a low scoring match as Australia beat New Zealand by 3 wickets on the 3rd day.
